Employee Retention Credit

Enacted as part of the CARES Act, the Employee Retention Credit (ERC) provides tax credits to eligible employers whose operations were suspended due to a COVID-19 related government order. Further, for both 2020 and 2021, an employer is eligible if it experiences a 20% quarter-over-quarter decline in revenue compared to 2019, and for 2020 experiences a 50% quarter-over-quarter decline in revenue. The ERC is claimed on the employer's quarterly payroll tax filings. The ERC is based upon a percentage of eligible wages, typically gross wages as well as the employees share of health benefits paid by the employer.
